Sometimes fans grow up loving a particular hockey team like the New York Rangers. Then maybe that fan moves to another market, let’s say, Carolina. What’s interesting to me is how fans ultimately chase the Cup with that new franchise. I spoke to someone recently who made that transition and pulled and got the payoff with the Hurricanes when they won it all in 2006 after years of rooting for the new team. I know others that have done this as well. If you live long enough away from your team, rooting for the hometown team is acceptable to me, and for the fan, you could get that ultimate payoff. Hockey fans chase Lord Stanley’s Cup more than any other trophy in sports. More people take pictures with it than any other and people love the Cup stories.
