Opening Day is special. It’s even more special when it’s your teams home-opener. Next Thursday, I’ll be at my 31st-consecutive New York Mets home opener. I’ve been to a few more than that but that’s my streak. I’ve pushed off and missed a lot of things to be able to attend. Why is it so special? The optimism of spring. Every team is 0-0. The season is long but this day is one to be cherished. Announcing the lineups. Seeing old friends. Seeing the new players your team acquired over the winter. No other sport can match it. Major League Baseball can’t mess it up.
